Exchange Server 2010 is not a supported platform for Enterprise Vault 8.0. This means that Enterprise Vault 8.0 is not able to connect to and archive items from an Exchange 2010 server environment. Enterprise Vault 8.0 supports archiving from Exchange server 2000, 2003 and 2007.
Customers who have migrated (or are in the process of migrating) their user mailboxes to Exchange Server 2010 will find that an upgrade to Enterprise Vault 9.0 will be required to provide mailbox, public folder and journal archiving from Exchange Server 2010.
If, however, Enterprise Vault 9.0 is not available and journal archiving is required, then Symantec recommends the following steps and configuration to allow for journaling of user mailboxes on Exchange Server 2010:
If the existing environment already has the journal mailbox(es) located on Exchange 2007 servers then simply use Enterprise Vault 8.0 (any service pack) to archive the journaled content from the Exchange 2007 journal mailbox(es) in the normal manner.
If the journal mailbox(es) are not located on Exchange 2007 servers then:
1. Configure and install an Exchange 2007 server into the Exchange 2010 organization;
2. Create a new journal mailbox on the Exchange 2007 server;
3. Configure Exchange 2010 journaling to send journal copies to the journal mailbox on the Exchange 2007 server;
4. Use Enterprise Vault 8.0 (any service pack) to archive the journaled content from the Exchange 2007 mailbox(es) in the normal manner.
This configuration is supported by Symantec.
Summary:
- Enterprise Vault 8.0 is not supported for mailbox archiving of user mailboxes on located Exchange Server 2010.
- Enterprise Vault 8.0 is not supported for journal archiving from journal mailboxes located on Exchange Server 2010.
- Enterprise Vault 8.0 is supported for journaling user mailboxes on Exchange Server 2010 when the journal mailbox itself is on Exchange Server
